5 things that do not need to go to London

London is the capital of the Great Britain – this phrase is familiar to everyone who has studied English. It is not entirely correct, since Great Britain is the name of the islands on which the United Kingdom is located. It consists of four parts-countries, and each has its own capital: Scotland has Edinburgh, Wales has Cardiff, Northern Ireland has Belfast and, finally, England has London. Neither the famous eternal fogs and rains, nor the gloomy sky, nor the high prices, nor the difficulty in obtaining a British visa does not prevent London from being one of the most popular travel destinations for tourists from all over the world. Actress Daria Pogodina tried to benefit from this popularity and found out how the British capital is different from other European cities.England is not Holland!
The one who was in Amsterdam and a number of other capitals of European states knows that there is no better way to move around the city than a bicycle. Unfortunately, London can not boast the same. Even in spite of the fact that the former mayor of the city at one time became famous for having traveled to work on a bicycle, and when he was in his “government” bicycle paths were actively built, the traffic, especially in the center of the British capital, was too intense and left-handed. Tourists get used to it is difficult, which means that your bike ride is not safe. Not to mention the fact that breathing gas polluted when you are driving at high speed is harmful.

England is definitely not France if we talk about food
May the English forgive me, but they are as far from French cuisine as they are from London to Paris on foot. Pudding, oatmeal on the water and mitlofy – this is very much to the amateur. It is much more correct to pay attention to what you already know and understand. Not for nothing, they say that for pizza you have to go to Italy, for burgers – to the States, for real sushi – to Japan. That is, if you wanted all of this in London, then feel free to go to a pizzeria, a burger or a sushi bar. English cuisine can boast except roast beef, and how lucky. In short, you want a gastronomic adventure, head to Paris. Not everything is unique in London and with water – I recommend drinking only the one in the bottle. You can also not count on delicious coffee, and the famous English tea is nothing more than milk, slightly diluted with tea – well, let’s say, so-so choices – to the amateur.

London is not Moscow
In the Russian capital, we are accustomed to a large variety of taxi services and companies that provide passenger services. Add here all the known aggregator applications and it turns out that a taxi in Moscow is an affordable and convenient form of urban transport. In London, everything is different. First, in September last year, the use of Uber was banned in the British capital. Secondly, the famous black cab – a symbol of London – not a cheap pleasure. The reason is simple: for English drivers to get the right to work as a taxi driver in general and in the cab, in particular, you need to unlearn for 5 years, know all the streets of the city (and there are several thousand of them) and be able to work the shortest way from one point to another. As a result, all this affects the prices. And one more feature of a London taxi: the final cost of the trip is influenced not only by the distance and time spent, but also by the number of passengers.

London is not Rio de Janeiro
But this does not mean that there are no pickpockets who, within a second, recognize in you a tourist who has come to spend money. It is especially easy to do this if you have a new souvenir T-shirt on you. I do not argue, sometimes you really want to wear something with the symbolism of the place where you were on vacation, be it the image of the Acropolis in Athens, the Statue of Liberty in New York or Mind the gap (London Underground). Of course, street thieves steal not only from visiting foreigners, just in such clothes you are a visible target for them. Be attentive and do not carry large sums of money with you – for some reason this is famous for Russian tourists.

London is not Luxembourg …
where there is, in fact, only one attraction – the Golden Lady. Do not limit yourself to Taur, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. Of course, the traditional sights of the English capital, including the London Eye, Westminster Abbey and Trafalgar Square must be visited. But I would recommend thinking wider. It is here, in the heart of the United Kingdom, where you will find a lot of interesting museums, which, by the way, can be accessed free of charge: the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Tate Gallery. Stand in line to give about 17 pounds (almost rubles) for a tour of the Tower or to witness the Rosetta Stone, the Diamond Sutra and the world’s largest collection of engravings by Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo Da Vinci? The choice is yours.
